Constraints of the App
- Though the app is free for teachers and parents, to enable student use, teachers must purchase a premium membership.
- When students complete an activity for a word list, it doesn't save their score and move them on to the next game. They gave to go back out onto the home screen to start a new game. It would be better if all their scores saved for a list.
- The app and website are a bit more cluttered than other study sites (i.e., Quizlet's clean, simple template.) The website is also covered with advertisements, making it hard to read and find important information in some places. The iPhone version of the app also uses very small font, which would be hard to use for some smaller children (the font is much bigger on the iPad).
- The games do not increase in rigor as students move through the app, and most of the games stay at low-level spelling and context clues practice. This app is not great for those learners who are more accelerated, but for students in middle school who are reading below grade level or who are struggling with spelling, this app is perfect.
- The app only provides one sentence per word used; the teacher is not able to add any more. This means that students get only one chance to practice putting the word in context (in the "Sentence Unscramble activity)--once they know that sentence, it's not a challenge anymore. It would be better if the Sentence Unscramble activity had multiple sentences that used the same words in order to challenge students.
